<日本>
Furuhashi Tsuyoshi is a joy to listen to. He takes musical chances and
plays with melodic invention in settings pastoral, chaotic and everywhere
in between. His tenor is brawny and beautiful and his flute playing combines
his jazz sensibility with elements of Japanese folk music. On his CD Furuhashi he plays with a novel set of
instrumentalists--a typical rhythm section of piano, bass and drums augmented
with a stick player and DJ--to create a classic set of jazz.
The album opens with "a ghost of roseraie de l'hay," a pretty ballad
reminiscent of Crescent-era Coltrane, with nice impressionistic piano
from Togashi Hal-Oh. "gravity" trods the path of Bitches Brew Miles and
Furuhashi fittingly echoes both Wayne Shorter & Bennie Maupin, playing with
some of the mysteriousness of the former and displaying the blues acumen of the
latter. The duet "july" with Hal-Oh again recalls an aspect of Shorter, the
piece resembling the kind of thing he and Herbie Hancock have been doing for
forty-some years now. The two versions of "sea" (subtitled type a & type b),
combine his organic sounding flute with some electronic trickery from Tsunoda
Tsuguto to form a sonic watercolor of the titular body. The music sometimes gets freaky and loose, but Tsuyoshi always plays with
logic and purpose. Even his dissonances are consonant; he gets skronky
when it's called for, but never sounds histrionic. Furuhashi Tsuyoshi has
to be reckoned a major talent. .....an amazing Japanese saxophonist who really deserves wider renown ....by JAZZREVIEWCOM,TedKane.(ENGLISH) Furuhashi is a near-perfect embodiment of next-generation musical art to the extent that it embraces a broad palette of spectrum of sound.By exprloring contransing textures and instrunction、the leader succesfully challenges mainstremJazzconvevtions head-on.A case in point is the ingenious,multi-level performance,"Gravity". Here, a driving, tonal center-based groove gives way to an intermezzo drumsolo, a duet with piano and drums, a trio with flute, piano and percussion, and a surreal, electonic coda. The episodic structure of the pieceoffers convincing proof tht new avenues of expression exist over and beyond conventional theme-and-variations.The piano and saxophone duets, including "July" and "A Ghost of roseraie de L"Hay" are miniture masterpieces;Togashi's expressive, chromaticapproach to the modern grandpiano is worth repeated listning. And the pulse-driven trio track, "On call from the other", is evidence of a rhythmic conceptthat stands with the best in creative in music. 2010 <アメリカ> Musicians: Tsuyoshi Furuhasi (tenor sax, flute), Trevor Lagrange (piano), Shanir Ezra Blmenkranz (bass), Reggie Nicolson (drums) Review: Tenor saxophonist, flutist and composer Tsuyoshi Furuhashi was born in Mitocity, Japan. His background includes study with Takeru Muraoka and winning an award at the Maizuru Redbrick Jazz Festival. Furuhashi’s been featured in Jazzlife Magazine and the newspaper El Diario. This recording, Live In New York, Magenta, was made live at The Stone in New York City on September 12, 2009. This concert brings together Furuhashi’s band in a set of three originals and a group free-jazz closer. The opening number, “Magenta,” incorporates brilliant hard bop blowing and features a terrific solo by pianist Trevor Lagrange. The band is truly of one mind as they negotiate the harmonic changes with deft, but light, brilliance. Furuhashi is a solidly grounded and well-schooled artist whose use of phrase and line places him solidly within the mainstream. The entire mood changes with the next composition, “Nord.” This open-ended free-rubato-timed piece features the leader on flute and saxophone. His playing is subtle, and the band follows him closely. Their clever interplay is not stilted, but the band reacts to more than participates with the leader. A swing ballad, “Changing The Time Spiral,” features bassist Shanir Ezra Blmenkranz. His playing is exquisite. His solo is firmly locked in the changes yet he plays lines so pretty it’s hard to believe he’s following any muse but his own. Lagrange’s light pointillistic harmonic fills color the edges of Blmenkranz’s solo perfectly. Their interplay is of special note to all would be jazz rhythm section performers as a prime example of resplendent cooperation. Furuhashi’s melancholy tenor playing sets the right mood, and the entire ensemble responds. The disc closes with material that would not be out of place on an early John Klemmer avant-garde inspired album. Furuhashi uses extended extramusical saxophone techniques, the band plays with a fervor inspired by fire, and while the result is not always concentrated and focused during the entire 15 minutes, it is interesting to listen to them negotiate the way. The problem with this disc is the recording quality. Without the use of microphones placed on individual instruments the sound is cavernous and the clarity and overall musical effect is severely compromised. <スペイン>-Dosgenious del jazz japon-Los actos de celebración del primer aniversario
